Living Seawall Project Surpasses 50% Fundraising Milestone

Momentum builds following a series of generous gifts in October

Living Seawall Project Surpasses 50% Fundraising Milestone

The Living Seawall at The Church by the Sea has officially passed the halfway mark in its fundraising journey. With over 50 % of the $1.83 million goal now secured, momentum is building thanks to several generous donations received in October.

This landmark initiative is transforming 860 feet of traditional seawall along Fort Lauderdale’s canal system into a vertical reef that improves water quality, supports marine biodiversity, and serves as a model for other urban waterways. The project is on track for construction to begin in May 2026.

“Crossing the 50 % mark is a real testament to the community’s belief in what we’re building here,” said Harry Rozelle, Committee Chair of the Living Seawall Initiative. “This initiative stands at the intersection of science, stewardship and faith. Every contribution helps us turn vision into action—and we’re grateful to each and every donor helping bring this to life.”
